Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

An Evening with Roy Forbes
Saturday January 24th 8pm
St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)

For over forty years now, Roy Forbes has been a prominent and critically acclaimed artist who has made enduring artistic contributions to the Canadian music scene as a performer, recording artist, songwriter, producer and broadcaster. From his solo recordings that began with the 1975 album Kid Full of Dreams to his collaborations in UHF, to his work hosting CKUA and CBC programs, Roy has proven to be an inspired artist who has never lost touch with the magic of music

He is a brilliant guitarist, a prolific songwriter, and a man with an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of popular music. He also does far and away my favourite cover of Hank Williams' I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry!

Somewhat surprisingly, this will be Roy's first Rogue concert - although he did perform at our Winter Roots Festivals both solo and with UHF in the last millennium!

The intimate setting of St. James Hall will beautifully showcase the stripped down sounds of one of our national treasures, Roy Forbes—one guitar and one voice - the unmistakable sound that audiences keep coming back for.

Coming to The Rogue House Next Weekend!!
Two great young Roots Music Ensembles:

The Foghorn Stringband (Friday January 30th)
The Duhks (Sunday February 1st)!
The Foghorn Stringband (above left) features Caleb Klauder (guitar, vocals, mandolin) and Reeb Willms (guitar, vocals) from Portland and Nadine Landry (bass, vocals) and Sammy Lind (fiddle, accordion) from Whitehorse. Together they make some of the finest Old Time String Band Music around! They have just released Devil In The Seat. We can't wait to hear it!

The Duhks (above right) hail from Winnipeg, and have a new line-up and a hot new CD too. Leonard Podolak (banjo, vocals) and Jessie Havey (vocals) are joined by Rosie Newton (fiddle), Colin Savoie-Levac (guitar, bouzouki) and Kevin Garcia (percussion). Their music is a dynamic blend of old-timey, French Canadian and Celtic music punched up with shades of blues, soul and driving Afro Cuban rhythms that always gets the audience up on their feet!

Just Announced!!

They play a soulful mix of R&B and World Rhythms on their passionate original songs, which feature Karen's soaring, scorching hot vocals. They will be joined by Vancouver's Shari Ulrich (Pied Pumkin, UHF, High Bar Gang, etc.) on fiddle, mandolin and vocals. Can't wait!

It has just been released on Nonesuch Records. At last!

I'll also have music from plenty of upcoming Rogue performers, some music recently acquired on my recent trip to New Zealand and Melbourne, and new music by Paperboys, Michael Jerome Browne, Janiva Magness, PEI's The East Pointers, and much more!

I hope you can join me. I'm desperate to get back on the air!!

Radio Rogue is back too, streaming an amazing collection of new and old Roots music 24/7 from our Granville Island office. Just point your browser right here, sit back and get in the groove - after you've heard my show on CiTR of course!
