Sylvia Herold and the Rhythm Bugs sing lighthearted swing and mid-century pop songs in lush three-part harmony. Sylvia Herold (Wake the Dead, Cats & Jammers, Euphonia), Ed Johnson (vocals/guitar), Jennifer Scott (vocals/piano), and Cary Black (acoustic bass/vocals) draw from their new CD, The Spider and the Fly. The disc takes its name-and its spirit-from the Fats Waller song, "The Spider and the Fly," a tale of leggy seduction. The material ranges from high-society jazz to low-down Basin Street ballads. The focus is on the elegant vocal arrangements reminiscent of the Pied Pipers and the Boswell Sisters.
