George Yioldassis (Yiorgos) is a Greek bouzouki player from Vancouver BC. Originally a guitar player George discovered a love for playing Greek music and the bouzouki in 1988. He was a founding member of the local band “Diaspora” followed by the instrumental duo “Yiorgos & Yiannis" which released their self titled debut CD “Epitelous” - which means "finally!" in Greek - in 2000. George has collaborated with many local musicians, played at many Greek Day festivals, participated in music lectures / performances and continues to promote traditional Greek bouzouki rembetiki and laiki music in an enchanting acoustic instrumental landscape.
Together with the gifted guitar playing accompaniment of Johannes Grames (Yiannis) this acoustic duo has taken instrumental Greek music to intimate venues since 2009. They perform Greek music produced from the period of 1930’s to the 1960’s. This was a golden era that produced many interesting and moving pieces that are an inspiration to hear and play.
Come and celebrate Greek music - and Greek snacks - in the heart of Vancouver's Greek neighbourhood. Then come out to celebrate Greek Day on Sunday June 22nd. A free event which takes place on West Broadway which is closed to traffic for this colourful and popular cultural extravaganza! The Rogue will be there too, so come and visit our tent.
