Lonesome Town Painters | Gabriel Dubreuil & Andy Hillhouse

Having met by way of late-night jam sessions at Vancouver’s ANZA Club and their mutual love of The Stanley Brothers, this hard-hitting quartet has been finding its audience in every festival stage, concert hall, pub and brewery that will have them. They can be heard regularly on Bluegrass Ramble (91.3 KBCS), In The Pines (CFRO Co-op Radio 100.5) and Pacific Pickin' (CiTR 101.9) in Vancouver.

GABRIEL DUBREUIL

Gabriel Dubreuil is a fiddler, multi-instrumentalist, composer, teacher, sideman, bandleader, producer (the list goes on). He has recorded on dozens of albums with acclaimed musicians and producers  and performed across North America alongside some of the worlds finest folk musicians. 

Born and raised in British Columbia, Gabriel Dubreuil took to the fiddle at an early age. Captivated by old traditions and emerging music styles he has learned to play many instruments in many genres. He is indeed a musical chameleon: blending Celtic, Canadian fiddle and jazz with style and flare, drawing from his studies with violin legends Matt Glaser, Darol Anger and Jason Anick. He is an alumni of Berklee College of Music where he received a degree in Jazz performance and American Roots music. 

Gabriel is a founding member of Celtic-rock band Early Spirit. Early Spirit’s album Unrelated (2018) was produced by Grammy and Juno award winning musician and producer Leonard Podolak (The Dhuks), and featured guests Natalie MacMaster, Geoffrey Kelly, Leonard Podolak and Michelle Campagne. Early Spirit has since toured festival stages across Canada. Their second album is to be released in winter of 2022. Gabriel’s second solo record  will also be released in 2022. 

Gabriel is the Executive Artistic Director for Vancouver’s North Shore Celtic Ensemble, a youth performing arts group with some of Vancouver’s most promising young musicians. The Ensemble was founded by Claude Giguere and Early Spirit bandmate Jay Knutson in 1988, and has hundreds of student alumni across Vancouver including Gabriel himself. Gabriel was previously the musical director for the Bad to the Bow youth fiddle group in Gibsons, BC and he teaches private violin lessons in North Vancouver.

COVID-19 Policy: We will be operating in full compliance of all BC Health restrictions. We are limited to 50% of our usual capacity. Dancing is not permitted. The wearing of masks is required. Everyone in attendance must have proof of being fully vaccinated. Volunteers, staff and performers will be as well. (If you haven't been vaccinated, the concert will be streamed.) Restrictions may change if more BC Health announcements are made.
