High energy, versatile Vancouver singer LJ Mounteney brings an eclectic mix of music and musicians to the Rogue Folk’s Mel Lehan hall to celebrate the release of her exciting new 13 song blues and roots album Mama Danced! This evening will feature originals and covers from the album as well as well loved roots and blues gems and features and an all-star cast of Vancouver musicians and singers in the band.
A busy singer on the West Coast - Mounteney is no stranger to the Rogue’s Mel Lehan Hall, performing nine consecutive years with Van Django’s Cool Yule Christmas show as well as being a featured artist in Cameron Wilson’s White Album Reimagined (2018). Mounteney’s skillful vocals are also showcased in two exciting Vancouver projects. The first, Zappostrophe’, finds her playing the music of the late great Frank Zappa. The second is Wilson’s new fun late- period Beatles project Get Back Unplugged! Recently LJ was an invited featured guest with legendary bluesman Jack Lavin’s Rhythm Train for the Victoria Blues Society’s annual fundraiser.
‘Mama Danced’ has been gaining high praise from listeners and critics alike, with Blues Bytes magazine declaring “Mama Danced might just turn out to be the surprise hit of the year!” and Blues Blast Magazine stating “Mounteney serves up a winner here!”. Tracks have been played on Saturday Night Blues (CBC), Friday Night Blues (CKUA), Edge on Folk (CiTR), Code Blue (CiTR), Nanaimo’s CHLY and many other Canadian blues and roots radio stations as well as stations across the UK and US.
‘Mama Danced’ was produced by Lavin and features several award winning musicians and singers, including writer/guitarist Brandon Isaak and sax man Jerry Cook and many more. Cook will be on hand for the release along with Geeta Das (trumpet), Cole Tinney (piano/organ), Allan Dionne (drums), Jon Roper (guitar), Linda Kidder (bass/vocals). Bring your dancing shoes!
