ALLEN DOBB
Victoria based singer-songwriter Allen Dobb is performing shows in support of Alone Together, a new full-length album released in February 2024. The album, his fourth solo release, is a skillfully crafted collection of Americana-style songs inspired by different stories, landscapes, and characters Dobb has encountered working as a range management specialist in the BC Interior. Alone Together was produced by brother and long-time collaborator Cameron Dobb, who also heads up the talented live band playing keyboards, accordion, lap steel an guitars, along with Scott White on upright bass, and Katrina Kadoski on acoustic guitar, banjo, and vocals. Building on a successful run of release concerts earlier this year, the band captures the spacious, acoustic, and sonic richness of the new album, and more.
Steeped in their own rural roots growing up on a farm in northwestern Alberta near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Dobb brothers bring a depth and maturity to the songs and the performance. Allen’s narratives explore complexities of the heart on tracks like “All Costs”, “Here and Now” and “Alone Together” and look back at the country’s colonial past in “Black and White 1912”, “Crooked River,” and “Frontier Justice.” The melodies are carried by acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, lap steel, piano and other instruments in tasteful arrangements that always create just the right sonic space for his soulful baritone vocal.
Allen Dobb’s musical journey has taken him to Austin, Texas, Nashville, TN, Lesotho, Southern Africa, and places in between. He has performed at the Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Mariposa folk festivals and the legendary Bumbershoot Festival in the U.S. He has toured the U.K. and shared the stage with a diverse group of artists including Shawn Colvin, Jann Arden, Jesse Winchester, Pete Case, Darden Smith, Stephen Fearing, Roy Forbes, and Ziggy Marley.
One of the finest and most literate tunesmiths in this country" - Peter North, The Edmonton Journal.
JACKSON HOLLOW
Jackson Hollow has a timeless sound and authentic appeal that has connected with a growing audience across generations and beyond borders. Described as having a voice that “stops traffic”, the group’s co-founder is lead vocalist Tianna Lefebvre, a 4-time BC Country Music Association Award winner who has performed with renowned artists such as Shania Twain, Michelle Wright, and Russell deCarle.
The band’s fiddle and mandolin player – and co-founder of this husband and wife-led band – is Mike Sanyshyn, who holds four Provincial Fiddle Champion titles and placed in the top 3 at the prestigious Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Championship. The CCMA and BCCMA Award winner has toured with Grammy-nominated artist Deric Ruttan, and worked with legendary artists Ian Tyson, The Good Brothers, Lucille Starr, and Randy Bachman.
Rounding out the band are two more shining talents and its newest members: BCCMA Award winner and JUNO nominee Charlie Frie’s upright bass and vocals lay a soulful foundation for the band’s effortless harmonies, while JUNO nominee and Canadian Folk Music award winner Eric Reed (guitar/banjo) adds a traditional sound through his seasoned background as a multi-instrumentalist and producer/recording engineer.
After winning the BCCMA Gaylord Wood Traditional Country Award four times, Jackson Hollow experienced a breakthrough year in 2021. First chosen for an IBMA International Showcase in June, their performance garnered the interest of Mountain Fever Records, a Virginia-based bluegrass label, who signed them shortly after. An album was produced by Tom McKillip (Aaron Pritchett, Lisa Brokop).
In 2022, the positive reception to the group’s subsequent debut album release, “Roses”, brought forward a 2023 IBMA Momentum Award nomination for Vocalist of the Year for Tianna and culminated in a 2024 JUNO Award nomination for Traditional Roots Album of the Year to go along with further recognition for the group, thanks to a 2024 IBMA Momentum Award nomination, two 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards nominations. as well as four more Josie Award nominations.
On the heels of a Canadian Folk Music Awards Tradworks Showcase., Jackson Hollow is set to play the stage of the IBMA Momentum Awards, along with a slate of showcases during the IBMA World of Bluegrass festival. With pristine musical offerings complemented by a finely tuned live show, Jackson Hollow will only continue to stand out as a steadfast international bluegrass presence.
"Jackson Hollow continues to impress my ears. This band is exemplary in every category. Vocals, musicianship, arrangements, material and performance. The sound is pure bluegrass but with a freshness and vibrancy that seems to be missing in today’s more traditional groups. The vocal blend is as perfect as I have heard. Led by a dynamic female singer, this band is on their own unique trajectory, and that trajectory is simply out of this world!" - Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame Artist Wendell Ferguson.
