A long-time student of Ravi Shankar, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt belongs to an elite group of musicians whose musical lineage can be traced back to Mughal Emperor Akbar's court musician Tansen and his Hindu guru, Swami Haridas. Creator of the Mohan Veena, Bhatt has mesmerized the world with his dazzling musicality, virtuosity and bewildering command over the famous instrument that bears his name.
In 1994, Bhatt won a Grammy Award with Ry Cooder for their World Music Album, A Meeting by the River. With blinding speed and faultless legato, Bhatt is undoubtedly one of the expressive, versatile and greatest slide players in the world. He is a mentor/teacher to blues/folk virtuoso Harry Manx, who himself has taken the Mohan Veena to concert stages all over the world. Bhatt will be featured with his son Salil Bhatt on mohan veena, and Ramkumar Mishra on tablas.
