TIM READMAN & SHONA LA MOTTEE
Vancouver’s Tim Readman is a musician, folksinger, songwriter, producer and music journalist, originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He was the leader of Canadian Celtic/folk favourites Fear of Drinking. He also plays guitar, sings and writes with ace Celtic fiddler Shona Le Mottee. He has produced a number of CDs for other folk acts, and is a regular contributer to Canada’s folk roots magazine Penguin Eggs.
The folks at the Vancouver Folk Festival have said “there are a lot of people who play folk music. Tim Readman is folk music. He knows which side he is on and why. He also understands how an artist and their music can bring a room together and make everyone feel welcome.”
Tim was the Artistic Director for the 2008 and 2009 CelticFest Vancouver and is still with them as performer, musical host and MC. He has an extensive repertoire of original songs and can also perform everything from traditional murder ballads to more contemporary material by artists as diverse as The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Steely Dan and Madonna. He can entertain in any setting, from concert hall to campfire and makes people laugh at every show.
In Readman’s band will be long-time collaborator, fiddler Shona La Mottee. Born on the Island of Jersey in the English Channel, La Mottee moved to Vancouver, Canada at age nine. Raised by a mother from the east coast of Scotland, Shona has deep roots in the musical traditions of Scotland, Ireland and Cape Breton Island.
In 1995, Shona was chosen to join the Canadian Celtic-pop group The Paperboys with whom she toured extensively throughout North America for over 2 years. In 1997, Shona recorded the album “Molinos” with The Paperboys, which won the Canadian Juno Award in 1998 for The Best Roots and Traditional Album (Group).
Shona has performed with Micheal Flatley’s Lord of the Dance. She has also performed and recorded with 5x World Champions The SFU Pipe Band, West African folk musician Alpha YaYa Diallo, Irish party bands The Town Pants and The Pat Chessel Band, and Celtic folk band Mad Pudding. Shona has taught fiddle music for over 17 years and is the former director and founder of the Vancouver Scottish Fiddle Club which ran successfully for 6 years.
Tim and Shona will also be accompanied by Gerard Kerr on guitar, vocals and bodhran.

Fionn’s Alanna and Brianne Finn-Morris might be young, but don’t let that fool you. The 20-year-old twins from White Rock, British Columbia, have been singing together for most of their lives. They officially “turned pro” when they started busking at Vancouver’s bustling Granville Island at the age of 12, and by the time they hit 14 they were playing around 100 shows a year, growing a fan base for a sound centred around the sort of telepathically tight vocal harmonies that only siblings could deliver.
Appearances on local radio and TV soon followed, and the sisters entered—and won—a number of talent competitions. They also caught the ear of 604 Records founder Jonathan Simkin, who encouraged them to continue crafting original material. The sisters cite everyone from Canadian icons Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell to current hitmakers like Lorde and Hozier as influences. Their own songs, however—from the sharp social commentary of “Skeleton” and “Magazine Face” (which contains the pithy observation that “little girls want to grow up to be wanted”) to the poignantly personal “Tell Me I’m Pretty” and “Give In”—make it abundantly clear that they are developing a voice that is entirely their own.
The lyrics are backed by arrangements that range from the lushly orchestrated folk-pop balladry of “Give In” to the boot-stomping roots-rock of “On to the Next”. At the heart of it all, however, the diamond-sharp harmonies of Alanna and Brianne sparkle, singing songs that suggest an old, wise soul dwells behind Fionn’s fresh faces.
