Award winning singer-songwriter Kim Beggs releases Blue Bones on Black Hen Music label

Sincere and vulnerable, clear eyed and tough, the familiar themes of love, loss, and hard fought freedom that Beggs so convincingly explores, have reached a new level this time out. On Blue Bones, the effortless grace and breezy delivery that has become her vocal trademark are supported by some of North America's most respected roots musicians to make this the best sounding album of an already impressive career.

Working with Steve Dawson, Kim Beggs has found a collaborator capable of helping her bring her vision to its fullest fruition. His masterful string playing graces every song in the album, and it's a thrill to hear his national steel, electric slide and weissenborn back up Begg's increasingly heartfelt guitar playing. Beggs and Dawson achieve a high lonesome sound with a distinctively Canadian feel, making Blue Bones sound like a lost Hazel Dickens album with a bright northern heart.

Blue Bones features nine original tracks as well as four well chosen cover songs. Beggs offers a stunning version of the old traditional, "I'm Thinking of My Blue Eyes" that will melt the most cynical of hearts as well as interpretations of classics from Bob Dylan, Patty Griffin, and Jack Clement that are sung in such a way that they sound as if she wrote them herself.

Kim Beggs is an original talent who makes music that transcends style and fashion. Without so much as a backward glance at what others consider 'hip', she instead makes music that is true.

Kim Beggs is currently touring as part of an artist collaboration called "Up There", also featuring Ivan Coyote (YT, BC) and Pat Braden (NWT). This show is being presented at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse on Oct 28, and at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo on Oct 30. It features stories and music from all three artists. Our concert - which is sandwiched between these dates - will feature an opening vignette from "Up There", with Ivan and Pat joining Kim.

The remainder of the concert will feature songs from Kim's new CD and from her earlier albums, notably the award-winning Wanderer's Paean.

Kim will be joined by T Nile on vocals and banjo, and David Sinclair on guitar. T Nile has performed at The Rogue before - including a Shore fm show in March, and at Shorefest this past July. She is a compelling singer and entertainer in her own right. David Sinclair is one of BC's most respected guitarists, having toured with Sarah McLachlan from 1993-2003, and with k.d. lang before that on her Ingenue tour. He is also a founding member of Sunshyne, which morphed into Prism, with David as guest guitarist on their first 3 albums. That was back in the 70s, and since then David has been very much in demand as a session player and producer, as well as keeping up his solo and duo projects.

Jesse Zubot, famed half of Zubot & Dawson, and sideman to the likes of Hawksley Workman, Justin Rutledge, Jim Byrnes, Tanya Tagaq, Ndidi Onukwulu and Paul Pigat - amongst countless others - has just been added to Kim's band. A master of fiddle, mandolin and musical arrangements, Jesse is the perfect accompanist for a huge variety of singers. We can't wait to hear him with Kim, Tamara and David!

What a treat to have all these accomplished musicians, singers, story tellers and poets on the same bill!
