Martin Simpson is widely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world. He has been nominated an astounding 23 times in the eleven years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards - more than any other performer - with 9 consecutive years as nominee for Musician of The Year, which he has won twice.
Martin Simpson excels in traditional English, Irish and Scottish ballads and tunes on the guitar, and is equally at home in the blues and banjo tunes of the deep south. Born and raised in Lincolnshire he first came to prominence as June Tabor's chosen guitarist, recording several albums with her before moving to New York State and later to California, and New Orleans, recording and performing with a variety of groups including blues legend Henry Thomas, but mostly recording stunning solo CDs. Recently married to Roy Bailey's daughter, Kit, he now makes his home in Sheffield, and has returned to his English musical roots making fabulous CDs True Stories, and Prodigal Son.
