Rogue 33 RPM | June 1 |This Day in History
On this day in 2003 we presented the English duo John Renbourn & Jacqui McShee at the Wise Hall. These two were co-founders of Pentangle in the mid 60s, with Renbourn's classical / renaissance / Celtic guitar styles the perfect foil for McShee's soaring vocals on everything from jazz to trad folk and much more. Scroll down to page 3 of our May 2003 Rogue Folk Review for more details.
In 1987 Nova Scotia's Jarvis Benoit Quartet began a three-night stand at The Savoy. Jarvis was one of Canada's most celebrated fiddle players, blending Celtic with classical and swing styles. He passed away in 2008. We have Daniel Lapp to thank for bringing Jarvis and his fine band to town for these shows after they had made such a big impact at Expo 86. See our fledgling, two-sided newsletter from June 1987 for a bit more info.
