Hi Everyone
So, tonight it's the final show of the month, and the last one at St. James (probably) until September!
I'm trying to assemble the Fall Season calendar, so be on the lookout for the likes of Kevin Burke's Open House, Ruth Moody, Fred Eaglesmith, Colin Linden, Finest Kind, The Breakmen, Stacey Earle & Mark Stuart, Bruce Molsky, Trisha Gagnon, Ellen Mcilwaine & Rachelle Van Zanten, Martin Simpson, Battlefield Band, De Temps Antan, Red Molly, The Haints, John Doyle, Solas - and more (or less) over the next few months. Look for a major update to our website later (as soon as I can tear myself away from the World Cup - I've even started trying to watch two games simultaneously now!)
Then there's Shorefest, with lots of performers on one or more stages on July 21, 24, 28 ad 31 (before the fireworks), and Debashish Bhattacharya at CBC Studio 700 around then. Maybe others, too. Plus festivals every week! And Les Charbonniers de l'Enfer at the new Jules Verne Theatre on July 24th
1. Plough CD Launch with guests, Wednesday June 23rd 8pm, St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
With glorious 4 part harmonies and acoustic instrumentation, Vancouver's Plough perform traditional and original songs influenced by old time music, bluegrass and the legacy of bands like the Carter Family and The Stanley Brothers. Karla Mundy, Linda Bull, James Scholl & Patrick Metzger will be joined by Tim Tweedale on dobro and Martin Fisk on percussion, plus there'll be an opening set by Leah Abramson (Dyad, Abramson Singers, Crooked Jades) www.myspace.com/ploughtheband
This will also be the best opportunity for you to pick up the early bird tickets you ordered for the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. So come on down to the Rogue one last time before the venue gets a facelift (well, a new floor!) and help us - and this fine band - celebrate what's been an outstanding year of roots music at the Rogue. Tickets will be available at the door.
2. North Shore Jazz
This Friday Harry Manx plays Capilano Performing Arts Theatre and Dirk Powell Band plays the Memorial Library in West Vancouver. On Saturday catch Marc Atkinson trio at Presentation House, and the following night John Reischman & John Miller play the same venue.
3. The Edge On Folk, Saturday 8am to noon, CiTR fm 101.9, and www.citr.ca
This week I'll have festival previews and new releases - plus some old favourites - and a Canada Day Special too. Please join me for four hours of the best in Folk & Roots Music from all over the map. The request / info line is 604-822-2487 during the show. Feel free to email me a request beforehand.
4. Shore 104.3fm Rogue Broadcasts
Tune in to Shore 104.3 this Sunday from 9pm to 10pm to hear Madison Violet recorded live in concert at the Rogue last month. www.shore104.com
Hope to see you tonight!
