1. Mae Moore, Friday March 4th, St. James Hall

Great article in today's Vancouver Sun about Mae Moore's concert tomorrow night:

Tickets for Mae Moore are selling fast. Not surprising really, as it is a very fine CD and her band is stellar (Daniel Lapp and Marc Atkinson amongst others!)

The concert is at St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Avenue, Friday March 4th, 8pm

2. Radio Waves

Please join me on The Edge On Folk this Saturday from 8am to 12 noon on CiTR fm 101.9, www.citr.ca, for a special Mardi Gras edition of the show. Plenty of new releases, too, including Canadians Stephen Fearing, Suzie Vinnick, Carlos del Junco, Good Lovelies, Wailin' Jennys, Steve Dawson, plus a brand new CD from Karen Savoca, Jeffery Broussard's new one, and the latest from Malian blues master Boubacar Traore - amongst others. Plus concert and festival previews.

3. Festival du Bois this weekend!

A great annual event in Coquitlam / Maillardville, with some fine bands from Quebec and across Canada. Don't miss Yves lambert & Le Bebert Orchestra on Saturday night! Lots of delicious food, and amazing music all weekend long. More info on www.festivaldubois.ca

4. Martyn Joseph on Sunday at Capilano University Performing Arts Theatre

The passionate Welsh singer songwriter returns! Alternating between shows at CPAT and St. James Hall, it's Cap's turn this year. He's always got plenty to say and should have oodles of new material - it's not as if there hasn't been anything going on around the planet for him to write about, is it? One of the outstanding troubadours of our time, Martyn Joseph doesn't hold back! Tickets and information on www2.capilanou.ca

5. Looking ahead

Next weekend we have a CD launch concert with harmonica wizard Carlos del Junco & The Blues Mongrels at St. James Hall on Friday March 11th, and the following night New York's old time stringband The Dust Busters make their Vancouver debut and we'll also be showing John Cohen's new movie about Appalachian singing legend Roscoe Holcomb. We guarantee that both nights will be memorable and exceptionally musical.

On Friday March 18th we present a unique double-bill of Vancouver's extremely melodic quartet Headwater and Boston-based fiddler Laura Cortese with her acoustic trio (with Mariel Vandersteel on fiddle and Aria DiSavio on cello)

Then on Sunday March 20th - long after the Celtic Fest Parade has finished - Rogue co-founder Stephen Fearing returns to St. James Hall with his good friend and songwriting buddy Andy White from Belfast. They have played festivals together for over 10 years, and finally nailed down some studio time last year to release a fine CD, Fearing & White, this month. It's great stuff!

6. Pizza and fundraising

On Tuesday March 22nd, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm, we have a fundraising night at Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company at 1876 West 1st Avenue, just west of Burrard Street. 10% of their food AND bar tally will be donated to The Rogue. There will be door prizes (mostly CDs) and a Parcel O'Rogues will be given to one lucky winner. (The draw will be made at the end of the night, and the winner notified by phone or email, to give everyone a fair chance of winning.)

They don't just serve the best pizza in town, they have delicious pasta and salads as well. And amazing desserts, too! Check out the menu here www.rockymountainflatbread.ca

Please come down and bring the family and friends. We all have to eat, and the food is wonderful. And it's for a good cause.

We hope to have some live music, too.

7. Rogue Folk Review / April In Paris

We are working on the March / April issue, so if you have anything you'd like us to mention let us know. There will be details of all our upcoming shows and a preview of the annual festival of gypsy jazz - April In Paris - which takes place right at the end of April this year (April 29 - May 1, in fact.) That will be an incredible weekend! So far we have John Jorgenson Quintet, Christine Tassand & Les Imposteures, Marc Atkinson's new Quartet, and Van Django. We hope to have a food and wine tasting / pairing event on the Friday, and the blockbuster closing concert will feature all those four bands - from 5pm onwards! The mailing party will probably be on Monday March 14th.
