Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Hi everyone

Greetings from Tofino! We're taking a few days for me to recuperate from my nasty cold and also from the deadline nightmare week just past. It's another beautiful day out here on the leftest of left coasts!

1. The Edge On Folk, CiTR fm 101.9 Saturday 8am to noon

This means that I won't be hosting The Edge On Folk tomorrow. Andy Gronberg will be filling in for me. It's his first time on a Roots Music show, so please be gentle with him. He's an interesting guy. A music aficionado for sure, with an interest in many styles. His two young kids are already championship winning fiddlers in several western Provinces, so expect a fair bit of fiddle music. He'll also be spinning tunes from our upcoming artists, and springing a few surprises along the way. He is more often found on CiTR co-hosting Generation Annihilation and / or Powerchord. I find it interesting that the hosts of Powerchord, CiTR's Metal Show, have always been the most broad-minded music devotees on the station. They listen to - and enjoy - just about everything. Anyhow, Andy will be hosting The Edge On Folk tomorrow (Saturday) from 8am to 12 noon on CiTR fm 101.9 and streamed live on www.citr.ca I plan to phone in at some point.

2. Rogue Folk Review Special Edition

The Rogue Folk Review is available for Download on our website and it contains two extra pages that are not in the print edition. Two feature interviews conducted by Vancouver music scribe Tony Montague - with Christine Tassan and John Jorgenson, two of the special guests at the 5th Annual April In Paris festival of gypsy jazz (April 29 - May 1 at St. James Hall.) Both band leaders have a lot to say, and the interviews are fascinating. Both their bands are performing twice during the festival, by far our most ambitious and exciting one to date. Tickets are available online and at Highlife Records and Rufus' Guitar Shop. We encourage you to snap up the weekend passes. There are only a few available, and they are a really great deal. More information about the festival can be found on our Concert Calendar.

3. Concerts This Week

Our next concert is next Friday April 15th with Irish piping legend Paddy Keenan at St. James Hall.

Meanwhile there are a few shows around town you might like:

There's an Irish Session at the Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir Street, on Monday April 11th - not Tuesday as stated in the Rogue Folk Review. Sorry.

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival presents soulful Winnipeg songwriter Matt Epp with the Amorian Ensemble on Tuesday April 12th at St. James Hall

The Vancouver Folk Song Society presents Peggy Seeger at the Unitarian Church at 49th and Oak on Wednesday April 13th at 7:30pm

Harry Manx teams up with David Lindley for a guitar-lovers' dream concert at The Vogue, also on Wednesday.

Not sure what else is on this weekend. I think we're going to see Safa (Sal Ferreras, Amir Koushkani and François Houle) at the Community Hall here in Tofino on Saturday night!

Have a great weekend. See you next Friday.
