Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Hi everyone

It's been a bit of a hectic Summer for me, and it's not getting any less hectic either! We got back from the Edmonton Folk Festival on Monday - what an incredible experience that was, once again proving itself to be the finest festival I've ever attended - and the next day came the news I'd been dreading, but half-expecting, all Summer long: my favourite Aunt, Joan, had passed away in England. So I must head over for the funeral and to help sort out her affairs. Not a very happy reason to visit, so I've managed to find a festival to attend: Shrewsbury Folk Festival, with the likes of Bellowhead, Show of Hands, Oysterband with special guests (quite probably June Tabor, with whom they have just released a CD), The Imagined Village, and The Cecil Sharp Project. It takes place on the August 26-29 weekend, and I fly back right afterwards - in time for the next Rogue concert, with Swedish supergroup Vasen (Friday September 2, 8pm, at St. James Hall.)

The Rogue's revised September line-up features the following concerts at St. James Hall

Vasen, Friday September 2nd

Dala, Friday September 16th

David Bromberg with Ollabelle, Monday September 19th

Roxanne Potvin & Old Man Luedecke, Thursday, September 22nd

Kate Reid CD Launch, Saturday, September 24th

and

Garnet Rogers, Friday, September 30th.

Full details are on our website. We have ironed out the difficulties with the David Bromberg tickets, so you can now purchase tickets for all these concerts online as well as at Highlife Records and Rufus' Guitar Shop

We're still working on our October schedule - and on - with highlights including The Abrams Brothers with Oh Susanna (Oct 16), David Francey (Oct 28), April Verch (November 6), BettySoo & Doug Cox (Nov 11), Evie Ladin (Nov 19), Deanna Knight & Hot Club Of Mars CD Launch (Nov 25,) and John Reischman & The Jaybirds CD launch (Dec 2). In the New Year we will have Andy White (Jan 15), Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys (Jan 19,) John Gorka (Feb 12,) Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill (Feb 29), The Good Lovelies (March 1), and James Keelaghan (April 5) - and lots more besides. It's all building up to the 6th Annual April In Paris festival of gypsy jazz (April 20-22) and The Rogue's 25th Anniversary on the May 11/12 weekend.

The Edge On Folk this Saturday from 8am to noon on CiTR fm 101.9 (Cable fm 88.5, and streamed live on www.citr.ca) will be my first full-length radio show since the end of June, and of course I'll be away again for the next two shows (Andrea Berman will fill in on August 20th, and Paul Norton will be in the chair on August 27th. Thanks, Andrea & Paul!) I'll have a look back at Edmonton, a look ahead to tomorrow's Burnaby Blues & Roots Festival, some concert previews (Dave Alvin, Frankie Armstrong, The Decemberists, Vasen, etc.) and new releases by Tom Russell, Keb' Mo', Ollabelle, DeVotchka, Locarno, Romi Mayes, Susana Baca, Deep Dark Woods, Pokey Lafarge, and lots more! Please join me for 4 hours of the best in Roots, Folk and World Music tomorrow morning.

Cheers for now
Steve
