Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

1. Pharis & jason Romero with Riley Baugus & Kirk Sutphin, Thursday December 8, 8pm, St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Avenue

It's our final concert of 2011 tonight at St. James Hall, and we still have some tickets left! This is going to be an amazing concert for anyone who likes harmony singing and / or old time fiddle tunes. Riley Baugus plays banjo, fiddle, and guitar and sings the songs of his homeland in North Carolina. He starred in the movie Cold Mountain, and will be joined by fiddler Kirk Sutphin. Pharis Romero (nee Patenaude) used to be the principal singer in Outlaw Social, a band that also featured Kendel Carson and Oliver Swain. She married Jason Romero a few years back. He's an acclaimed banjo maker and singer from California and the couple have played here twice with fiddler Erynn Marshall in The Haints. They have just released their first CD as a duo, A Passing Glimpse. It's a fabulous record! This is the CD launch in Vancouver. More info on www.jasonandpharis.com and www.rileybaugus.com

2. The Edge On Folk, Saturday 8am to noon, CiTR fm 101.9 and www.citr.ca

This week I'll have more selections from my favourite CDs of 2011 and a flashback to one of the bands I booked when I was on the Ents Committee at college in England way back in the 1970s - JSD Band; a vigorous Scots band that combined rocking tune medleys with Child ballads and old time American tunes with Woody Guthrie songs. Please join me for four hours of the best in Roots music from around the world, this Saturday 8am to noon, on CiTR fm 101.9, Shaw Cable 88.5fm, Telus TV Ch. 3717, or streamed online on www.citr.ca

3. Allison Crowe, Sunday December 11th, 7pm, St. James Hall

On Sunday December 11th we'll be running the bar at Allison Crowe's concert at St. James Hall. She's an award-winning songwriter from Vancouver Island, whose achievements include awards at Beatles contests in Liverpool. She'll be doing some Holiday songs in this her annual Christmas Concert in Vancouver. Tickets & info on www.allisoncrowe.com
