Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Hi everyone, and Happy New Year! Welcome to the Silver Jubilee Year of the Rogue Folk Club.

Yes, that's right. we turn 25 this year, in May in fact, so you can expect some blockbuster concerts all year long, featuring old favourites like Fred Eaglesmith (May 18), Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill (Feb 29), and Oysterband (Oct 19) as well as newcomers like Newfoundland's Sherman Downey & The Silver Lining (Jan 24). For the Birthday Show on May 12th we hope to bring back Wake The Dead - that amazing Celtic band that covers the music of the Grateful Dead!

1. Andy White, Sunday January 15, 8pm, St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)

Our first concert of the year is this coming Sunday, with Irish troubadour Andy White celebrating the North American launch of his latest CD, Songwriter, which was recorded right here in Vancouver, with a backing band comprising Allison Russell (Po Girl), Paul Rigby (Neko Case) and John Rahan (Be Good Tanyas). Some or all of them will likely join him on stage on Sunday, he told me yesterday! The new CD is an excellent collection of songs, and he has a songwriting career that stretches back over two decades and he's also a published author and a former artistic director of WOMAD UK, too. Last March he made his Rogue debut in a duo with Stephen Fearing, but this time it will be an evening of Andy White songs, and it promises to be a fabulous show. More info about Andy can be found on www.andywhite.com There are still tickets left, and you can buy them at Highlife Records or Rufus' Guitar Shop or online.

2. Rogue Folk Review for January has just been released

The January issue of the Rogue Folk Review is now available for download on our website and some of you will receive it in the mail in the next day or two. The online version corrects a minor error on age 4, which lists the Qristina and Quinn Bachand / Laura Cortese concert as Saturday March 10th. In the online version I changed it to the correct date: Friday March 9th. Sorry about the confusion! There's a great article by Tony Montague about Tim Readman's new CD (launch concert is Jan 27), and you can read all about Sherman Downey (Jan 24), and the return of the Creole Cowboy himself: Jeffery Broussard from Louisiana (Jan 19). And this are just a few highlights of the first month of Roguery in 2012.

3. Limited Edition: Rogue Calendar 2012

We have a few copies of The Rogue 2012 Calendar for sale at our concerts. I know, it's a bit late for a calendar, but it's still the first half of the first month, and this is a special limited edition, lavishly produced calendar, replete with photos of Rogue performers on stage in 2011.

Hope to see you on Sunday. Meanwhile check out the Rogue Folk Review, tune in to Radio Rogue (with its newly-updated playlist) and Go Rogue in 2012!
