Hi everyone
Just a quick note to say that I've uploaded 16 new photo slide shows to my Gallery Including concerts by Sherman Downey, Tim Readman's Out of The Green, The Breakmen, Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, Karen Savoca, Red Molly, Caladh Nua, and last night's Creole Cowboys show. Plus the Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis.
And to remind you that we have a great concert for you tonight, some brand new tunes on the radio tomorrow, I'll be on CBC NXNW on Sunday morning, and we have another amazing band making its Rogue debut on Sunday!
1. Maria Dunn & Shannon Johnson, Friday March 23rd, 8pm, St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
Maria Dunn - wonderful songwriter, singer and accordion player from Edmonton singing songs of immigrants to Canada and the struggles of good honest working people, delivered with warmth and humour and accompanied by the amazing Shannon Johnson on fiddle. www.mariadunn.com
2. The Edge On Folk, Saturday 8am to noon, CiTR fm 101.9 and www.citr.ca
New music this week from Quebec's Mes Aieux, American songwriter Anais Mitchell, Texas all-girl country folk combo The Carper Family, Senegalese kora diva Sona Jobarteh, and the incredible collaboration between Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Toure and Israeli keyboardist Idan Raichel. Plus concert previews (New Country Rehab, Treasa Levasseur, Corin Raymond, Cleia & Beyond, Lynn Miles, etc.) and a look ahead to April In Paris 2012, our 6th annual festival of gypsy jazz (including one or two newly remastered classics from Django Reinhardt himself!) www.citr.ca
3. Steve Edge is Sheryl McKay's guest on CBC NXNW, Sunday March 25th, 8am, CBC FM 88.1 and AM 690
I'll have a look back at the Folk Alliance in Memphis and spin a few tunes by some of the artists who impressed me the most.
4. New Country Rehab, Sunday March 25h, 8pm, St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
This incredible band features the brilliant fiddler / singer John Showman (also a member of the Toronto bluegrass band the Foggy Hogtown Boys.) John will be teaching a fiddle workshop at Prussin Music on Tuesday March 27th. Still a couple of spots left. Call 604-736-3036 if you're interested. NCR combines exhilarating Cajun-influenced fiddle medleys with original songs and acid-folk treatments of songs by Hank Williams and Bruce Springsteen that will make you smile and dance! www.newcountryrehab.com
5. Get Well Soon, Doug!
We'd also like to shout out a heartfelt Get Well Soon! to Rogue Board Member Doug O'Neill, who is at home recovering from painful back surgery.
Finally a big Thank You to everyone who came out to see Caladh Nua's hugely impressive Vancouver debut the other night, and last night's amazing Zydeco hoe-down with Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys! Two prime examples of what we do, why we do it, and how much fun it can be to share a folk music experience with a lively crowd and a great band! That's what the Rogue is all about.
Cheers
Steve
