Hi everyone
Just a quick note to say that
1. Rogue Folk Review for September has just been released.
It's available for download and many of you will have received one in the mail already. Copies are also available for pickup at Prussin Music, Rufus' Guitar Shop, Naam Restaurant, Mac Market, Cafe Memento, and at St. James Community Square (in the lobby)
2. CBC North By Northwest
I will be a guest on Sheryl McKay's show North By Northwest this Saturday morning at 7am on CBC fm 88.1 and am 690.
3. The Edge On Folk, CiTR fm 101.9 from 8am to noon and streamed live on www.citr.ca
Then I'm off to UBC to host another edition of The Edge On Folk. New music from Ry Cooder (his US election special is amazing!!) Jim Byrnes' country album, some new world music from the likes of Staff Benda Bilili, Lobi Traore, Los Centzoles etc, and some covers of Springsteen songs. Plus previews of Pokey Lafarge's concert on Saturday at The Rio, next week's concerts with Christa Couture and SONiA of Disappear Fear (Sep 6) and The Bills (Sep 7) at St. James Hall, and plenty of surprises. Maybe even a guest appearance by Kim Beggs, who is passing through town.
4. Contra Dance at St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Avenue, Saturday September 1st 8pm
The first event of the new season is a dance with the Sybaritic String Band and a guest caller. Bring a plate of Home-Made Goodies to share and receive 50% off the price of admission. Doors open at 7pm and introductory lessons are held at 745pm. The dance runs from 8pm to 11pm with a great live band, dozens of dance partners, and each dance is taught on the spot. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes in which you can dance all night.
Have a great weekend!
