Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Hi everyone

I told you the Fatoumata Diawara show would be good. Was I right? I think so. What a great performer! Such a good band! An incredible show.

So, what else might I recommend? Sad to say, I haven't been paying much attention to the local scene for the past few days. Margaret & I have been taking a mini break in Kamloops and Wells Gray Provincial Park (what an incredible place that is! I'd never even heard of it until yesterday. Spectacular scenery and wildlife!)

John Boutte, a great singer from New Orleans, performs at Cap on Friday with the Black Hen Records house band. That should be good. There's always something good at Granville Island on Canada Day - it will be free, too! So I'll probably head down there around noon for a couple of hours.

1. Special Deal for Rogues on the Mission Folk Music Festival (July 25-28, in Fraser River Heritage Park)

The main reason for this update is to remind you to book your tickets for the Mission Folk Music Festival. The Rogue has an amazing offer for members, and Mission hosts a very special - and unique - festival every July, with music you won't hear anywhere else in BC (and beyond) this Summer.

Weekend Pass prices (including GST) are as follows:

Adults: $68.25
Senior: $47.25
Youths: $42.00
Children: $10.50
Camping: $21.00 (per adult)

Payment must reach us by June 30th, but since it's a long weekend, we'll extend the deadline arbitrarily to Wednesday July 3rd. You can either mail a cheque for the appropriate amount (payable to Rogue Folk Club) to 31 - 1465 Lamey's Mill Road, Vancouver, B.C. V6H 3W1 or call us on 604-732-1305 next Tuesday or Wednesday and we'll take your credit card details.

Performers include Chicago Irish fiddler Liz Carroll, Scots singing legend Dick Gaughan, Irish-American quartet Comas, Canadian songwriter David Francey, Italian folk supergroup Stefano Saletti & Piccola Banda Ikona, local Blues master Jim Byrnes, American roots musicians Crow Quill Night Owl, American songwriters Mary Gauthier and Eliza Gilkyson teaming up with Canadian songbird Lynn Miles, Victoria's superb stringband The Bills, Vancouver Latino combo Locarno (an offshoot of The Paperboys - with horns!) and local R&B / Soul / Gospel trio The Sojourners. Full details can be found on www.missionfolkmusicfestival.ca.

It's a really incredible deal, and it's such an enjoyable festival too. Don't miss out!

2. The Edge On Folk, Saturday 8am to noon, CiTR fm 101.9 and www.citr.ca

This week's edition of The Edge On Folk will have a decidedly Canadian bias as we celebrate Canada Day with music from coast to coast to coast, plus festival previews and much more! Please join me for 4 hours of the very best selection of Roots, Folk & World Music on the airwaves this weekend! On CiTR fm 101.9, Telus TV Channel 3717, and streamed live on www.citr.ca

3. Radio Rogue and Rogue website temporarily "down"

We apologize for the temporary absence of Radio Rogue and the lack of new content on our website. The office router died the other day and we have yet to install a new one. Meanwhile we've been hard at work reporting on the year's shows to date and planning the Fall season - and our free festival of music before the fireworks - Shorefest - which takes place on The Rogue Stage at Sunset Beach on Saturday July 27th, Wednesday July 31st, and Saturday August 3rd. Performers include Fred Eaglesmith, The Deep Dark Woods, The Good Lovelies, The Dawn Pemberton Band, No Sinner, and many more. Full details of Shorefest are on www.shore104.com

Rogue concerts start up again in September with a Cajun Dance with Joel Savoy Band from Louisiana on the 14th. We will also present concerts with Ruth Moody (MB), John Doyle (Eire), Beppe Gambetta (Italy), Jenny Allen (Alberta), Reid Jamieson (BC) and Rachelle Van Zanten (BC).

Other Fall highlights will include Dar Williams (USA), Little Miss Higgins (SK) and David Francey (ON) in October; Dave Gunning (NS), Wake The Dead (USA), and Mary Gauthier (USA) in November; and a special Christmas show with Van Django - Django Bells - and possibly David Bromberg (USA) in December.

We should have Radio Rogue and our website up and running again in the next few days. Please bear with us!

Have a great long weekend. Happy Canada Day!
