Maire Ni Chathasaigh & Chris Newman, Friday March 29th, 8pm, at St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
"What happens when one of the world's finest Irish harpists joins up with one of the U.K.'s most acclaimed acoustic guitarists? You get a duo who take both instruments to new heights through technical mastery and fearless approaches to new and traditional songs. It's not like you are used to hearing the harp swinging over a jazz standard, or get treated to a mix of bluegrass and baroque that somehow works perfectly." So says Thursday's edition of the Vancouver Sun, and we concur wholeheartedly! This concert with Dublin's Maire Ni Chathasaigh and Yorkshire's Chris Newman is a must-see for all fans of Celtic music, or brilliant guitar music (any and every genre), or harp music, or traditional music, or Irish language, etc. Check out their YouTube channel for further evidence!
Described - variously - as “Virtuosic, fascinating, dramatic, original, inspired, gloriously adventurous, dazzling, brilliant, stunning, impassioned, electrifying, bewitching, moving, achingly beautiful, influential, revered, (and/or) unique...” by such publications as The Times, fRoots, The Guardian, The Irish Times, The Scotsman, this amazing duo will light up the stage at St. James Hall this Friday evening!
There are still tickets available so tell all your friends and let's make it a big party to wrap up St. Patrick's Month - and International Women's Month - with a supreme evening of acoustic Roguery! Just say "Moira and Chris" if you want a simple way of saying it!
Tickets are also available at the door. Doors open at 7. Show time is 8pm prompt. See you there!!
