Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Treacherous road conditions led us to postpone the Shane MacGowan Tribute concert. New date: Saturday March 2nd

Well, we are back in town after an exhilarating cruise around Cape Horn, with visits to towns and cities and ports in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Falkland Islands.

While we were away Brooke Bennett - the Rogue’s amazing Admin / Booking maven - assembled a stunning year of Rogue concerts! We are almost completely booked up for the entire year! Paul Norton, our esteemed publicist, has created a brilliant array of posters and concert blurbs to promote the first shows of 2024. Check it out on www.roguefolk.bc.ca

The first shows come next Friday January 26thwith Washington State's The Faux Paws (top photo above) featuring Chris Miller of The Revelers on sax, and banjo, and Vancouver Island's The Unfaithful Servants (above), featuring Dylan Stone who performed at the recent Gordon Lightfoot Tributeshow at The Rogue, and brilliant mandolinist Jesse Cobb (of renowned bluegrass band Special Consensus fame).

Next up, on Saturday January 27th, is the brilliant indigenous fiddler and songwriter Morgan Toney (above) from Eskasoni on Cape Breton island, accompanied by fellow islander Keith Mullins.

These are going to be two fabulous evenings of acoustic roots music. We hope you will come on down to the Rogue to hear some very exciting new music!

The new year was all set for a rip-roaring start with a concert on
Friday, January 19th, featuring a great double-bill of local performers helping us celebrate the legacy of recently-deceased Shane MacGowan, the principal songwriter and raucous vocalist of the pioneering folk / punk band The PoguesPat Chesselland Sinead X Sanders were both heavily influenced by The Pogues, and had arranged a set each of Shane's songs to mark the occasion.

Sadly, things have conspired to force us to postpone this show. The unprecedented snow falls and prolonged cold spell have made the roads treacherous, and, in the interests of everyone's safety, we decided it was too risky to go ahead. The new date for the Shane MacGowan Tribute show is Saturday March 2nd. Your tickets will be honoured for that date.

I will be back on the air on CiTR on Saturday morning, and I hope you will be able to listen to the Saturday Edge On Folk from 8am to 12 noon on www.citr.ca. I promise you that the music will be great. I'll feature tunes by next week's Rogue performers The Unfaithful Servants (BC) and The Faux Paws (WA), and Morgan Toney & Keith Mullins (NS). There will also be plenty of new music from Ireland, Belgium, Scotland, and England; some hot tropical sounds from a new Putumayo Sampler; some tangos and other music from Argentina; and a little (musical) look back at the Falklands War.
