Emergency Website Update
Our web host has suffered some attacks from overseas recently, resulting in slow response times and occasional inaccessibility of The Rogue website
This is extremely annoying and disruptive, but our site is currently working again, but sometimes takes a while to load. In the event of any further access problems when you try to click on the concert links in this blog, we have created a special website with direct links to The Rogue's ticket purchase section, so you can still buy tickets to all our shows. Tickets for ALL shows will also be on sale at the door.
Meanwhile, my blog is a bit longer than usual. I hope you don't mind.

Folk Alliance Conference In Montreal
Greetings from snowy Montreal!
|
|
We are at the end of our sojourn here in Quebec for the 37th annual Folk Alliance International Conference. There were six Rogues (Board, staff and volunteers) in attendance this year, and we witnessed many spectacular showcase concerts in the official showcase rooms and many more in individual suites and hotel rooms in the Sheraton Downtown Hotel. It is not possible for me to recount all of our collective experiences here, but there were many personal highlights for me including:
- La Bottine Souriante
- Le Vent Du Nord
- Cecilia
- Skye Consort & Emma Bjorling
- Ranagri from England and Eire
- Gnoss from Orkney
- San Miguel Fraser from Spain
- Connie Kaldor Band
- Melisande
- Marta Pereira da Costa from Portugal
- Omiri from Portugal
- Rum Ragged
- Inn Echo (PEI)
- Steve Poltz
- Frander from Sweden
- El Pony Pisador from Catalonia
- The Fugitives
- Mama’s Broke
- Christine Tassan et les Imposteures
- April Verch & Joe Newberry
- Crys Matthews, Dar Williams and The Nields in the round
- Madeline Hawthorne, Steve Poltz and Youngtree & Carole Bee in the round
The closing party featured legendary songwriter Zachary Richard and bluesy singer Mia Borders (that's mere, not mire) from Louisiana, because next year the conference moves to New Orleans, whose people prefer to think of themselves as “Caribbean” as opposed to “American” these days for some reason! :-)
Here are some photos I took at the showcases: Mama's Broke, The Fugitives, San Miguel Fraser (Alasdair's son and his Spanish wife), Portuguese guitarist Marta Pereira da Costa, Cecilia, Crys Matthews, and Scots trad quartet Gnoss (pronounced NOSS) from Orkney & Glasgow.

There will be dance music afterwards, and a silent auction and free snacks as the evening unfolds into a love fest for our venue and the beating heart of Kitsilano - St. James Community Square.
