Rogue 33 RPM | June 20 | This Day in Rogue History

In 2014 we teamed up with Kitsilano's Greek Days festival to present an evening with Vancouver guitar and bouzouki duo Yiorgos & Yiannis at St. James. They are fine players, but it seems our timing was a bit "off", as all the local Greek families were busy baking treats for the street festival that week.

The previous year we held a special CD launch for Vancouver's English-born ukulele maestro Ralph Shaw at St. JamesSteve Dawson had produced Ralph's two CDs that spring - Love and Laughter, and he and bassist Rob Becker joined Ralph on stage.

In 1998 we presented Ontario's folk luminaries The Blackflies, whose unique blend of Cajun tunes and Ontario folk songs featured Peter Jellard on accordion and Steve Fruitman - founder of The Porcupine Awards - Canada's first folk music awards. I seem to recall the whole band sleeping on the floor of our common room that night. Oops! Pretend you didn't hear that.... You can read a bit about the show on Page 4 of our June 1998 Review.
