Rogue 33 RPM | May 11 | This Day in Rogue History

In 1996, The Rogue presented a Swing Dance at The Wise Hall with Vancouver's Palm Wine Starlight Orchestra (Koralee Tonack on vocals, Michael Dunn & Django Dunn on guitars, Jacques Khouri on bass, and Mark Dowding on wind instruments.) See our May 1996 issue for more info.

On this day in 2012, Jayme Stone's Folklife played a Rogue show at St. James Hall. Described
by The Globe & Mail as "the Yo Yo Ma of the banjo", Ontario's Jayme Stone always brings an
interesting band and a mind-blowing selection of tunes from many traditions.

On May 11th 2014 we brought Mr. Dave to St. James Hall for the first time. David Lindley is a
master of all things stringed and a fashion icon for the polyester garment sweatshops of
Southern California! He's a wonderful raconteur and an amazing player who's played with many
musical luminaries over the past 50 years (perhaps most famously, Jackson Browne).
He once told me he taught Steve Martin to play the banjo on the roof of the American Hotel
in Disneyland. Here's the link to this incredible concert.

On this day in 2014 we presented bluegrass fiddle legend Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper
at St. James. What a stunning musician he is! Great band too. He isn't very tall, he's blind,
has a great sense of humour and is a bloody marvellous player. Talk about speed and dynamics!
Whew! Here's the link to our show.
