Gretchen Peters concert

We launch our Fall Season 2007 at St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue) with a concert featuring the very wonderful Gretchen Peters. She has a truly gorgeous voice, and writes and sings some of the most beautiful songs we've ever heard. She has just released a fine CD called "Burnt Toast & Offerings" on her own label, Scarlet Letter. She will be accompanied by pianist Barry Walsh. You might have seen her on the Songwriter Train Concert with Mary Gauthier and Tom Russell a couple of years ago. You will have heard many of her compositions sung by performers like Bryan Adams, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, and The Neville Brothers.

If you like well-crafted songs about life, love, loss, joy, travel, and the struggles and triumphs we all face, then you'll definitely enjoy this concert. If you love the power of the human voice, relish the ways our best writers can inspire us and cheer us, and love the intimate atmosphere of a Rogue Folk Club concert, then you should definitely come along. Radio Rogue Update

We have had some problems with a Listener Robot attacking our broadcast stream and locking out legitimate listeners. So we have had to add a Password in order for you to access the stream.

I just tested it in iTunes and Real Player. Both worked fine.

The URL remains the same radio.roguefolk.bc.ca:8000/listen.m3u

When you open it in your Music Player you will be prompted for a Name and Password

The Name is:
Radio Rogue

The Password is:
Roots Radio!

This should work. Please let me know if it doesn't. If you do have problems, let me know whether you're on Mac or PC, which OS version you're using, and which Music Player and Version.

Compadres

We had a fine time at The Cultch last Saturday with Oscar Lopez and James Keelaghan. Thanks to everyone who came along to make it such a great night. Thanks also to our volunteers for coping with heaps of tricky questions and selling scads of CDs and raffle tickets. And thanks to Compadres' publicist, Heather Kitching, for setting up all those interviews and helping us spread the word. Watch for a Compadres feature on Bravo TV in the next few weeks. They had a camera at the gig, so you might see yourself on the TV.

Basque Music Event

World Music fans should check out Juan Mari Beltran at St. James Hall this Friday, September 14th. He plays traditional music from the Basque country on a variety of exotic instruments and will be accompanied by a band. Tickets are only $15 at the door, and more information can be found on www.bcbasque.com

Cap Folk & Roots

This series also kicks off this week, with the long-awaited return of Loudon Wainwright III at Capilano College Theatre in North Vancouver. His new CD, "Strange Weirdos", is his best CD for years. New Website for Vancouver Folk Music Fans!

This week also sees the launch of a great new resource for Vancouver's Roots Music scene. It's a website with forums for discussion, concert announcements, and lots of other Folk Music happenings. Visit www.vancouverfolk.com

CD Warehouse Sale

This Saturday from 10am to 6pm, Festival Distribution is holding an enormous Warehouse Sale. There will be some rare gems, and some excellent bargains. They are located at 1352 Grant Street, just east of Clark Drive, a couple of blocks south of Venables. www.festival.bc.ca

Half Way to St Patrick's Day

This Sunday, September 16th, The Paperboys with special guest Shona Le Mottee and MC Tim Readman play at Richard's On Richards. I'll be spinning some Celtic tunes in the breaks, too. This concert is a fundraiser for the Vancouver Celtic Festival, which takes place on and around St. Patrick's Day on Granville Street. That's only 6 months away.
