Hi everyone
Happy New Year!
We have the perfect cure for the cold, dark, wet winter blahs this weekend.
1. Radio Waves - The Edge On Folk is back on CiTR!
First off, tune in to CiTR fm 101.9 from 8am to noon when I'm finally let loose on the radio once again! The building has been locked up for the past two holiday Saturdays, so I'm champing at the bit to get back on the air to present some of my favourite songs from 2010 and some exciting concert previews and new releases. You can tune in live on the radio, or on our streamed audio site www.citr.ca
2. Foghorn Trio, Saturday January 8th, 8pm at St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
Then we have a concert in the evening at St. James Hall with a band that provided two of the biggest concert highlights of 2010 at The Rogue - Portland's Foghorn Trio. They play old time, bluegrass, country, Cajun music - and a whole lot more - with great style and an irrepressible sense of fun. Come and hear Caleb Klauder (mandolin, guitar,) Stephen "Sammy" Lind (fiddle,) and Yukon / Quebec songbird Nadine Landry (bass, guitar) as they strut their stuff at the Rogue one more time. You won't regret it. Concert Details
3. Rogue Folk Review - January Edition now available!
The January issue of the Rogue Folk Review is now available for download from our website.
Some of you will receive it in the mail in the next day or two, but if you can't wait, go to our website and download it there. It's packed with information about our concerts and lots of other events around town. You might have seen a few articles about House Concerts in the papers recently. Read my editorial and see why I think The Rogue gives you the best concert experience in town. Then come to the shows and see what I'm talking about!
We also encourage you to check out the new CD Review Section on our website. You'll find an abbreviated version of David Ingram's review of the amazing new Afrocubism CD in the Rogue Folk Review. The full review can be found in this new section on our website.
4. Dave Alvin at Capilano Performing Arts Theatre, this Sunday
The brilliant songwriter and guitarist Dave Alvin returns to the Cap Folk & Roots Series this Sunday accompanied by three Guilty Women - Cindy Cashdollar on dobro, Laurie Lewis on fiddle, and Christy McWilson on vocals. Dave's latest CD was released in 2009, with even more Guilty Women in the line-up! We saw them at the Kate Wolf Festival in California that July. Dave played solo at The Rogue that year, too, and was also featured in the memorable Mississippi Sheiks Tribute concerts last winter.
5. Red Molly make their Vancouver debut next week - Friday, January 14th at St. James Hall
Don't miss this stunning trio from New York! Glorious harmonies and very fine songwriting - plus the mesmerising dobro playing of Abbie Gardner. This band delivers some of the finest folk / country / bluegrass / old time crossover music I've ever heard - and yet their deeply-rooted sound is distinctive and fresh. www.redmolly.com
See you soon!
