Hi everyone
Just a quick reminder about a few things happening at The Rogue this week!
1. The Edge On Folk is on the air right now on CiTR fm 101.9 and www.citr.ca
I hope you can join me for the next 3 1/2 hours of the finest in Roots music from around the world. No special feature this week, but some sumptuous new releases and concert previews to savour. You can tune in live on Telus Channel 7023, fm 101.9, or listen to the live stream on www.citr.ca If you missed it, you can download podcasts here
2. There's a fabulous concert tomorrow night (Sunday 9th) at St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
The Fretless is a brilliant Canadian string quartet playing Celtic music, and they have just released their 2nd CD. Incredible stuff! Sharing the bill - and maybe the stage - is Winnipeg singer Cara Luft, whose roots are very much in the Celtic tradition. She's a great singer and won a Juno as a founding member of The Wailin' Jennys. She too has a new CD
3. We need a new office
After 25 years in the same location we received an eviction notice this week. We need a space on the west side, preferably close to St. James Hall. Around 200 - 300 sq. ft. If you know of one that's relatively inexpensive (less than $750 per month; preferably around $500), please email me on roguefolk@telus.net
4. We have the sexiest piper in the world next Friday at St. James Hall - Carlos Nunez!
Galicia's most celebrated musician is piper Carlos Nunez. We saw him last summer in Edmonton and are thrilled to be able to bring him and his fine band to The Rogue next Friday February 14th for Valentine's Day. The quintet features Carlos on Galician bagpipes and whistles, his brother on percussion, Canadian fiddler / singer / stepdancer Stephanie Cadman, and more! When asked the difference between playing the qhistle and the pipes, he told Celt In A Twist "the whistle and flute is like making love with a beautiful woman. The pipes is just raw sex!" Sounds like Valentine's Day in Vancouver just got a lot sexier and more musical!
Tickets for our concerts are on sale on our website at www.roguefolk.bc.ca and also at Highlife Records and Rufus' Guitar Shop.
See you at The Rogue!
