1. Don Alder concert, plus AGM, Friday May 23rd at St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
Just a quick reminder about the concert tomorrow night. It will be a spectacular evening of guitar wizardry from Vancouver's World Champion Finger-Style guitarist (and 2011 Worldwide Guitar Idol winner) Don Alder, with plenty of guitars - including the harp guitar and the baritone wonder he played on my show last week! He'll have some surprise guests as well. I must admit I had only heard his instrumental work until he showed up at CiTR and started his live set with a song. What a fine voice he has, too!
The show starts at 8pm, and doors open at 7pm. A little earlier on we will have the Rogue Annual General Meeting in the Small Community Room at the back of the building (entrance is from the central door off the rear parking lot.)The AGM starts at 6pm, and all members are encouraged to attend. You can even renew your membership at the meeting. We will present the financial statements and one or two brief reports and then the Board has proposed a slate of 5 directors to renew their 2 year terms of office.
Then come upstairs and enjoy the show! We will have new T-Shirts available for the first time.
2. Vancouver Folk Festival Tickets
We have early bird tickets to this year's event on sale on our website for the exclusively low price of $130 per adult for the weekend (July 18-20) Rogue members can purchase as many tickets as they like for their friends. Deadline is June 8th.
3. The Edge On Folk, Saturday 8am to noon, on CiTR fm 101.9 and www.citr.ca
Not much new this week, except for See The Sky About To Rain, the wonderful debut solo CD by Colleen Rennison on Black Hen Music, and the Toumani and Sidiki Diabate CD. Oh, and probably something from Cirque du Soleil's Totem which we saw last Saturday; absolutely brilliant show! Strongly recommended! Plus lots of concert and festival previews, and some wonderful old favourites from the 29 year history of the show. I hope you can join me! You can tune in live on CiTR fm 101.9 in Vancouver, on Telus TV Channel 7023 in BC and Alberta, and it's streamed live on www.citr.ca
