Friday November 7th, 8pm Winsome Kind (BC) w/ Colin Bullock (Australia) St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
“The folk-pop affair is rife with vibrant harmonies, and there's a candy store's worth of sweet melodies.” -- Andrea Warner, CBC Music
“The crunchy, toe-tapping This Much is True is particularly rapturous, as the pair’s voices rise to angelic heights.” -- Alex Hudson, The Georgia Straight
"There’s a decided maturity attached to Winsome Kind’s debut. These are not two people attempting to portray a fairy tale existence; they’re comfortable enough in their own skin to let an audience view both the bliss and the blemishes of relationships. This is elegant folk-pop for adults." - Carolyn Dixon
Winsome Kind is quintessentially Canadian, connecting with audiences through an endearing essence and zest for life. With deep roots in the Prairies, it was on the East Coast where the seeds were sown, and on the West Coast where the music blossomed, and they’ve embraced it all every step of the way. Scott Perrie met Leora Joy on stage in the Buddy Holly Story. They have been together ever since, and now release their debut CD at The Rogue. It was produced by Tom Dobrzanski (Said The Whale, The Zolas), who also plays piano and keyboards. Musicians Samual Cartwright on drums and Marcus Abramzik on bass round out the stellar band, along with Scott on guitars and mandolin, and Leora on melodica. Scott's former band, Redgy Blackout, won a Shore 104 Best of BC award a while back; Leora sings with the Vancouver Chamber Choir. They make beautiful music together, full of engaging melodies, lyrical hooks, and infectious rhythms. Locally-based Australian songwriter Colin Bullock will open for them.
This just in from Scott: "We arrived home yesterday from 3 sold out shows on the prairies in Regina, Oxbow and Winnipeg. We returned by train making music onboard VIA Rail from Winnipeg to Vancouver. Our album was part of the CBC FIRST PLAY and has been getting great reviews. It was produced by the Juno-Nominated Tom Dobrzanski who grew up in Kits."
As soon as I heard them sing I was hooked. If you like good songs well sung you'll love them too! |
