Just a quick update today. This has been a mad week!!
1. Red Moon Road & The Wahs, Friday October 30th 8pm, St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue)
Don't miss tonight's concert with Red Moon Road (Winnipeg) and The Wahs (Vancouver) at St. James Hall. Last November Red Moon Road made their Rogue debut. What a show they put on!! Stunning vocals and incredible stories of their family histories. Canadian songwriters like James Keelaghan and the late Stan Rogers are renowned for their sense of history. Red Moon Road personalise the history of Canada and their own stories are woven in. Stories like Sheena Rattai's grandparents fleeing the Red Army at the end of WWII are especially compelling. They have a new CD, Sorrows & Glories, and we look forward to revisiting the "Discovery Concert of 2014" with this amazing folk trio!
Cam Wilson (fiddle) and Andy Hillhouse (guitar, vocals) founded Mad Pudding in the early 1990s. What a great Celtic band that was! With Andy now back in B.C. (Artistic Director of the Harrison Festival of the Arts) they have teamed up again, along with bassist extraordinaire Brent Gubbels to form The Wahs, who will open the show with a short set. More information can be found here and tickets will be available at the door until 8pm tonight.
As it's Halloween, we'll have some treats, as well as prizes for the best costumes, so feel free to dress up if you like!
2. Radio Waves
On tomorrow's Edge On Folk on CiTR fm 101.9 and www.citr.ca from 8am to noon, I'll have a scary bunch of Halloween songs, a tribute to Leon Bibb, and some new releases from the recent Celtic Colours Festival in Cape Breton, and many more! The phones are unreliable at CiTR, so if you need to reach me, send me a message on Facebook (you can Friend me on www.facebook.com/TheEdge19 if you haven't already done so. I give out regular updates on the music I'm playing.)
Radio Rogue runs a huge playlist all day all the time on our website
3. A big week ahead!!
Margaret and I are off to San Francisco on Sunday to catch Wake The Dead's Day Of The Dead show at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. WTD are an amazing Celtic band that fuses trad tunes with songs of the Grateful Dead, and have now added Jefferson Airplane songs and more to their repertoire. We'll miss the Patty Griffin show at The Commodore on Monday (I'll have some music from her superb new CD, Servant Of Love on tomorrow's show), and Bluebird North at The Roundhouse on Tuesday. We'll be back for the Sean McCann concert on Friday November 6th at St. James.
