Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Calling all Rogues! We want you to share some fabulous BC music with us. In person or at home, whatever floats your musical boat! View this email in your browser

1.Chris Ronald Trio plus Syd Carter West, Friday October 1st, 8pm, Mel Lehan Hall (3214 West 10th Ave) - and Streamed Live too

"Ronald possesses a keenly luxuriant voice matched with immaculate song craft.” - The Georgia Straight

From Derby in England, originally, and now residing in White Rock, singer songwriter Chris Ronald celebrates the launch of his latest CD, Light & Dark, with a concert in the Rogue Reload Fall Series. It's his fifth CD, and it's been riding high on Folk DJ Charts around the English-speaking world for a couple of months now. He was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Awardin 2014, and signed to legendary Canadian label Borealis Records shortly afterwards. He's an exceptional writer and a fine guitar player too. His songs range from the personal to the environmentally-charged, and the political. If you like strong songwriting a la Richard Thompson, Stephen Fearing, or Bruce Cockburn you should check this guy out! He will be accompanied by the brilliant multi-instrumentalist John Ellis and the exceptionally versatile guitar / mandolin wizard Eric Reed - who played with Meg Tennant at our last show.

There will also be an opening set from Syd Carter West. This Bluesy Canadian Roots Rocker recently released an EP of acoustic songs. Great voice, reminiscent of the likes of Colleen Rennison and Janis Joplin, I don't know how she's slipped under my radar until now!

Tickets and information can be found right here. Book now to avoid disappointment. Tell your friends! We don't want anyone to miss out!!

2. Rogue Reload Series

While we have enjoyed one sold-out show and one almost sold-out show so far in our Rogue Reload Series, we would really like to see a full house every time. We realize that not everyone is comfortable coming to an indoor concert during the pandemic, but we would like to assure you that everyone in the room has been double-vaccinated and the wearing of masks is mandatory when you're not enjoying a beverage or a snack from our bar. In other words, it's as safe as we can make it!

We've all been deprived of the magical experience of sharing a live music experience with friends - and strangers - for over 18 months. Musicians have been deprived of a livelihood during that time, too.

In order to try to make things whole again we booked a series of shows featuring B.C. musicians, ranging from the tried and true (Jane Mortifee, Shari Ulrich, Pharis & Jason Romero, The Bills, and The Paperboys etc.) to the exceptionally gifted emerging and perhaps lesser-known artists (The Burying Ground, Chris Ronald, The Rocket Revellers, Gabriel Dubreuil & Andy Hillhouse, etc.)

All these shows are destined to break-even at best. Making a profit is not our aim here; we want to help revitalize the B.C. music scene as best we can, and to reconnect with the avid music lovers that we know you to be!

Please support our endeavours in any way you can. If you can't make it to a show then why not spend $10 to watch the show from the comfort of your own home? Every $10 helps! We can send the music out to hundreds if not thousands of you, so please join us. We've invested in new lights and Hubcast Media have invested in state of the art cameras thanks to support from Creative BC. We have some amazing musicians lined up. All we need is an audience! Please support your local musicians - and music providers.

Next week (Friday October 8th) we present local bluegrass pickers and great harmony singers The Lonesome Town Painters in a double bill with the incredible young fiddler and composer Gabriel Dubreuil, who will be accompanied by Andy Hillhouse (Mad Pudding, The McDades, Van Django etc.)

On Friday October 15th it's a rocking double bill with Paul Pigat's bluesy Boxcar Campfire and Gastown's Rockabilly kings The Rocket Revellers. This show will definitely sell out, by the way ...

and on Friday October 22nd we present the long overdue CD launch of The Burying Ground's second CD, A Look Back. Their unique brand of acoustic blues will be complemented perfectly by young Yukon bluesman Ryan McNally and his National steel guitar.

Full details of all our shows can be found on www.roguefolk.com

3. The Saturday Edge On Folk, every Saturday from 8am to noon on www.citr.ca

I haven't planned this week's show yet, but there will be new music from the likes of Yukon's Ryan McNally, Cork's John Spillane, BC's Syd Carter West, and Barney Bentall & Geoffrey Kelly, Alberta's The McDades and lots more besides. I hope you'll tune me in and turn me on. Again!
